Autres indications : This singular monument of early Grecian art, was discovered in an excavation made by Mr Burgon in 1813, near Athens, on the left side of the road leading from that city to Thebes, about 70 yards from the ancient gate (Portae Acharnicae), or 170 yards from the modern gate called Gribos Kapesi. The vase was merely deposited in the earth, about three feet deep, without any appearance of a tomb near it; however, some remains of burnt bones were found in it, that proved it had served funereal purpose: it contained also six small earthen vessels of various forms, and its mouth was covered with a sqare piece of stone.
