Descriptions
Note :
On two Boucher drawings recorded as among Basan's personal collection in the 1792 Recueil de cent vingt Sujets et Paysages divers, graves a L'eau forte...Dont les dessins originaux font partie de la Collection du Sr. Basan Pere a Paris. Identifies the first as an unlocated drawing of The Dying Elisha Commanding King Joash to Take Bows and Arrows, known from a print in the British Museum, London, which is here attributed to Basan pere. Identifies the second Boucher drawing as a Last Supper now in the Art Institute of Chicago, known from an etching by Jean Baptiste Huet in the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. Author argues, however, that the Chicago drawing was erroneously given to Boucher in Basan's posthumous sale. Attributes this drawing instead to Huet, suggesting it was made, preparatory to the Paris etching, after a genuine Boucher Last Supper which is now in the Albertina, Vienna.
