Commentaires généraux
Commentaire général :
Cratère à volutes attique à figures rouges, Musée du Louvre, G 343 (MR 1 - N 3155)
Commentaires descriptifs
Commentaire descriptif :
Cratère à volutes: tableau face A, panse
Collection mentionnée : Rome, Bibliothèque Vaticane; Paris, Musée Royal du Louvre (1822)
Interprétation donnée : The subject represents two young warriors, probably Achilles and Patroclus, who are taking leave of their parents, Peleus and Menoetius, previously to their departure for the expedition against Troy.(Deux guerriers, peut-être Achille et Patrocle, quittant leurs parents Pélée et Menoetius pour partir à Troie)
Pages de texte : p. 54-60
Autres indications : This interesting monument has been published, but in a most incorrect manner, in the Etruria Regalis of Dempster, and afterwards by d'Hancarville, who presents the paintings as belonging to four different vases.
It appears that d'Hancarville had not seen the original; but gave engravings copied from those of Dempster, and with the same omissions.
