Map of Asian collections in France

Created from the data of the database Collectors, collectors and dealers of Asian art in France, 1700-1939, this cartography is the result of an important collaborative work with over 130 international specialists. It allows the visualization of the conservation locations of the collections gathered and collected by the personalities who make up the corpus of the program. This map is not exhaustive because it is constrained by the chronological limits of the project, which extend from the 18th century to 1939. It therefore presents only the collections linked to these personalities.

This cartography is intended to be a tool to make the collections of Asian art in France better known. It is also intended to encourage the development of research on the objects gathered in these collections. The geographical approach also allows us to highlight the importance of these collections on a national scale. The map allows for a search by place of conservation of the objects, thus completing the prosopographic method chosen for the research program. It also materializes the complexity of the history of the collections, since some sets may be dispersed in different institutions. Several places of conservation can therefore be mentioned for the same individual. Interactive, the map refers to the 250 records of the personalities that make up the research program.
